Internships at companies: what do they involve?
External work internships are training activities undertaken by students and supervised by department-assigned lecturers.
The aim of these internships is to enable students to apply and supplement the knowledge that they have acquired during their studies by providing skills that prepare them for professional work and boost their employability.
In order to pass the External Internships subject, students may choose to undertake curricular or extracurricular internships, or request accreditation of their work experience.
Curricular internships are directly managed by the Faculty of Economics and Business. They are run in two periods: the first takes place from November to February, and the second from February to May. The internships last 450 hours, 400 of which are undertaken at the collaborating company.
Extracurricular internships are managed by the DOIP (Careers Guidance and Intership Department) and/or other institutions, with monitoring by the Faculty of Economics and Business. These internships are voluntary and although they have the same aim as curricular internships, they are not part of the curriculum.
Accreditation of work experience can take place in two ways, depending on whether students acquire experience during the academic year for which they are enrolled, or whether they have prior work experience.
