FAQs

About Enrolment

When I select a subject on UIB Digital, it states there are no places left. What does this mean?

This happens when the capacity of this group has been exceeded. You must enroll in another group available in the morning or afternoon.

I can't enrol on subject X as the examination results from subject Y (a pre-requisite) have not been released and I don't have my mark. What should I do?

Enrol on the other subjects and wait until the results are released. Once released, and depending on what is set out in point a), you can re-enrol on subject Y, if you did not pass, or enrol on X if you passed Y.

I can't enrol on second-year subjects as I have not passed 50% of my first year. I can't enrol on third year courses since I have not passed 70% of my first and second years. What should I do?

If you started your programme before the 2013-14 academic year and need 6 to 12 credits, you may ask the dean for permission to enrol on up to 18 credits per semester of the year immediately above (art. 45.6 in the Academic Regulations).

If you started your programme from the 2013-14 academic year, the new regulations in the FOU (official gazette) apply: undergraduate students must enrol on all subjects still to be passed from previous academic years before being able to enrol on a subject from a higher year, except for elective subjects, as long as they have approval from the dean or head of degree.

If you are in the first group, you may follow the new regulations if you make a formal request to the Pro-Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs on the proviso that, once requested, these regulations will apply from that time onwards for all purposes and not solely regarding this specific issue.

Can I register for the Final Degree Project (TFG) and practical placements at companies (PE) separately?

From the 2013-14 academic year onwards, you may do so according to the new recently approved regulations for the TFG and PE. We recommend you read the new regulations carefully that can be found on the FEE website.

Can I cancel all or part of my enrolment?

Yes you can, although you must have justified circumstances that are duly documented. For first-semester subjects, you need to make your request before 31st December, and for second-semester, before 30th April (art. 9.1 in the Academic Regulations).

The reasons for total or partial registration cancellation may be: serious illness, a sudden change in work or family circumstances, obtaining a place at another university, visa refusal or any other similar reason.

Can I add or drop subjects from my enrolment? What is the deadline?

Adding subjects to enrolment is allowed during the enrolment period, as long as the total credits for the academic year does not surpass 78. The head of studies needs to give his/her approval and a report from the dean is required. For elective subjects, changes may only be made to other elective subjects, as long as the initial number of credits remains the same.

Attendance requirements where there is a second enrolment

Ratifying Agreement of 14th November 2018 on Attendance Requirements introduces a new final section four in article five that states the following:

'Undergraduate students with 12 or fewer credits still to pass (excluding credits for the Final Degree Project and external placements) may, in accordance with the procedure set out in the University of the Balearic Islands Academic Regulations, request a second additional enrolment from the Dean or Head of the Faculty/School in order to finish their degree programme.'

How can I change group?

Group changes must be requested via UIBdigital within the set deadline.

In order to request a change of group, you must comply with the requirements set out in the Faculty of Economics and Business Regulations.

Only requests including an attached accreditation document stating the reason for your group change request shall be admitted.

Your request must state the subject/s you need to change and the group you wish to change to. It is very important that the new group does not clash with your schedule.

Once your request has been decided on, you will receive a reply via UIBdigital. If the change is allowed, you will be assigned to the new group, which will be displayed on your schedule.

Assessment

Can I do the assessment for my subject early?

You can bring forward assessment for up to two subjects per academic year. If you want to sit an examination early for a subject running between June and February, you need to request this in December. If you want to sit an examination early for a subject running between September and June, you need to request this in April. The essential requirement in both instances is for you to have enrolled on the subject at least once and that the lecturer agrees it can be re-taken (see the corresponding course guide).

Some of my exams are on the same day. What can I do?

If the gap between exams is under 3 hours, you may request a date change in accordance with the following:

  • For examinations in February, the date change must be requested in December
  • For examinations in June, the date change must be requested in April
  • For examinations in September, as long as they may be re-taken, the date change must be requested between 1st and 20th July.

All these procedures are carried out at the secretary's office in the building and are decided on by the Dean of Faculty.

Academic Record

I want to transfer to another university and send my academic record. What do I need to do?

Firstly, you need to present the letter of acceptance from the new university. Then, you need to pay the corresponding fees. The Administrative Service in the building will take care of the rest.

What is the difference between an academic transcript and a statement?

Although they contain the same information, the main difference between the two is that a transcript is official, signed by an authorised representative and has full academic validity, whilst a statement has no academic validity and is purely informative.

Extraordinary Prizes on the Faculty of Economics and Business Programmes

Regulatory Agreement 12741 of 10th May 2018 on modifying the Academic Regulations of the University of the Balearic Islands states:

Chapter VI. Extraordinary Prizes for Finishing Official Programmes
Article 42. Extraordinary End of Degree Prizes

The extraordinary end of degree prizes shall be awarded by the Academic Commission, on behalf of the Governing Council, upon submission from the relevant faculty or school.

A prize may be awarded for each degree programme and academic year for every 70 students or fraction thereof who pass their degree within the academic year.

The academic record shall be assessed as a merit. In any event, in order to qualify for the extraordinary prize, the average mark in the academic record must be equal to or above '7 - very good'.

Where there is a tie between several candidates, the record shall have a 95% weighting, with the remaining 5% assessing other merits (grants, prizes, research collaboration, etc.).

Alternatively, centres may decide to set an exam or test that shall represent an arithmetic average, alongside the academic record. Students who have an average mark equal to or above that stated in section 3 of this article may sit the exam. In turn, and within the margins set, faculty boards shall set limits such as raising the minimum mark or establishing requirements such as time taken to obtain merits, etc.

For this reason, the Faculty of Economics and Business may establish that the average mark in the academic record be equal to or above '8 - very good'.

I need the course guide for the subjects I have taken

If you need the course guides for other Spanish universities, you need to follow these steps: print the course guides from the UIB website (you can find them through the UIB course guide search engine) and go to the Administrative Service to get them stamped. If the guides are not on the website, you can come to the Administrative Service directly and we will give them to you stamped. You can request this service by e-mail, phone (971 25 99 69) or in person. Once the documentation is ready, we will contact you to come to the office and pick it up. If you need the guides for validation of overseas qualifications, you need to follow the same steps as above and hand in the overseas documentation that states the format and content required, as well as pay the corresponding academic fees.

I need credits to be recognised. When can I do it? And how?

Any student who has taken university or vocational training can request accreditation for the corresponding credits on their course. You need to speak to the Administrative Service in the building, pay the accreditation fee and, once the report is done, decide if you do want the corresponding credits to be recognised and pay the fees for them. If so, the recognised credits will be definitively registered on your record.

Mobility

I want to take part in the ERASMUS programme. How do I do this?

Firstly, you need to find out about which mobility programmes are available to you (see here). When you are sure about the programme and destination, you need to contact the International Relations Office and fill in the corresponding application. A tutor will deal with your request. Finally, the Administration Service in the building will formalise registration and deal with all other academic procedures.
