Welcome Message from the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business
Welcome to the Faculty of Economics and Business at the University of the Balearic Islands, a benchmark institution for teaching economics and business administration. The current faculty is the result of a merger between the former Faculty of Economic and Business Sciences and the School of Business Studies, the latter of which was originally founded as the Palma School of Business in 1907.
We offer two undergraduate degree programmes at the UIB’s Palma campus: one in economics and one in business administration. In turn, we offer a double degree in business administration and law in conjunction with the Faculty of Law, and two double degrees jointly with the Faculty of Tourism: one in business administration and tourism and one in economics and tourism. The undergraduate degree programme in business administration can also be taken at our centres in Minorca and Ibiza.
We aim to offer high-quality teaching that is focused on comprehensively developing students’ personal and professional skills. Thus, the training that we provide to our students incorporates internships at businesses and institutions related to the sphere of economics. Moreover, in addition to attended lectures, the UIB and our faculty offer students a virtual campus and a myriad of resources to boost their independent learning skills.
On the international front, the faculty’s two undergraduate programmes can both be taken entirely in English, with around 50% of all subjects taught in the language. Moreover, in order to be awarded any of our degrees, students must demonstrate that they have attained at least a B2 level of English, as set out by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. To this end, we offer a wide variety of student exchange programmes at around 40 European, American, and Asian universities, enabling over 100 students to take part in exchange programmes every year. Similarly, students on our programmes come from over 40 different countries, making up 11% of our total student body. A large part of our teaching staff also has an international background, with lecturers and professors from six different countries.
Aside from teaching, the faculty participates in different university-wide goals, including research, innovation and the dissemination of knowledge.
I would like to use this brief introduction to encourage students to explore and take advantage of the many extracurricular opportunities offered at the university, including sports and cultural activities, clubs and playing a role in the university’s governing bodies.
Please get in touch if you would like more information about our courses or have any queries or comments.
