Research Seminar with Damien Neven


Professor Damien Neven will present a seminar on the evolving role of competition enforcement in the regulation of European sports. He will explore key legal and economic cases such as the Diarra case on player transfers, the Royal Antwerp case on UEFA’s regulation of home-grown players, and the European Super League. Additionally, Professor Neven will discuss the implications of competition law on sports regulation, particularly in relation to legal concepts such as restriction by object and legitimate objectives.

This seminar is jointly organized by the Department of Business Economics and the Department of Applied Economics.

About the Speaker:

Professor Damien Neven holds a PhD in Economics from Oxford University and has taught at INSEAD, the University of Brussels, and the University of Lausanne, among others. His research focuses on competition economics, international economic integration, and the law and economics of enforcement. From 2006 to 2011, he served as Chief Competition Economist at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Competition, shaping EU competition policy.
